Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" M. Kaiser (Kurtzweil)

Elizabeth "Betty" M. Kaiser (Kurtzweil)
Elizabeth “Betty” Kaiser, 96, Edgar, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 16, 1922, in Halder, the daughter of the late Edward and Amelia (Martin) Kurtzweil. She went through 8th grade at St. Robert’s Catholic School in Halder and received her Solemn Holy Communion in the 8th grade. On May 1, 1941, she married Melvin A. Kaiser at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Halder. He died August 22, 2005.

Elizabeth loved her 16 children, 14 of which are still living. She was totally committed to her husband, Melvin, and cared for him and her children, that she nurtured all through their lives. She taught her family how to be morally and spiritually strong along with her wonderful husband.

She was very creative in her cooking, crocheting, making down pillows, oil painting pillow covers, gardening, and her love of birds and caring for them too. Melvin planted trees and Elizabeth planted flowers. Her gardens were magnificent. The canning shelves represented her bounty and care for her family.

Survivors include 14 children, Michael (Donna), David (Bonnie), Gregory (Tricia), Stephen (Mary), Susan Kaiser Judge, Maria (Bernie) Prutz, Mel (Rhonda), Anthony (Diane), Gerard (Shelly), Samuel (Phyllis), Joan (Steve) Leick, Jean (Bob) Glenn, Paul (Vonda) and Lowell (Patti); 61 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Shirley) Kurtzweil; and two sisters, Cecelia (Charles) Schoenfuss and Margaret (Tom) Lirette. She was preceded in death by two sons, Loren and Christopher, and her siblings, Rita (Sylvester) Prihoda, Dorothy (Delbert) Rasmussen, Roman (Helen) Kaiser, Anthony (Sally) Kaiser, Verene (John) Stark and Edwin (Angeline) Kurtzweil.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. The Rev. Robert Streveler will officiate. The Rev. Felix Tigoy, The Rev. Joseph Diermeier and The Rev. Tom Huff will co-celebrate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the church.
