Obituary for Lucille Frances Stankowski (Brzezinski)

Lucille F. Stankowski, 94, Mosinee, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Marshfield Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Bevent, the daughter of the late Barney and Matilda (Dombeck) Brzezinski. She married Edwin Stankowski on Aug. 24, 1946, at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. He survives.

Prior to her marriage, Lucille worked as a private housekeeper in Wausau and Milwaukee. Using her sewing skills during WWII she worked in a factory, sewing parachutes. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s parish PCCW and a member of the Ladies Circle that founded the famous Halder Lenten fish fry. She also sang in the church choir and served for funeral lunches. Growing up in the Depression era, she could make a delicious, hearty meal from anything. She gardened, canned, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She baked thousands of loaves of bread to feed her family of 14. She worked tirelessly and enjoyed being busy. In her words, “work is good”. She enjoyed nature, sitting outside on a sunny day, and watching the hummingbirds feed in the summer. She appreciated the beauty of her flower gardens. The energy and excitement of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brightened her day and put an immediate smile on her face.

Survivors, besides her husband, Edwin, include her 12 children, Jim (Becky) Stankowski, Lowell, Ind., Bob (Marilyn) Stankowski, Mosinee, Tom (Karen) Stankowski, Mosinee, Paul (Marlo) Stankowski, Wausau, Nancy (Danny) Newville, Weston, Kenny (Doreen) Stankowski, Mosinee, George (Marge) Stankowski, Mosinee, Anthony Stankowski, Mosinee, Steve Stankowski, Mosinee, Bernard (LeAnn) Stankowski, Wausau, Greg (Susan) Stankowski, Mosinee, and Margaret (Lee) Novitzke, Mosinee; her 27 grandchildren, Joe and Jackie, Seth, Trista and Kayla, Gary, Teresa and Danny, Kelly, Krisy and Kevin, Adam and Molly, Travis, Brad and Jessica, Brandon, Carrie, Carmen and Jamie, Connor, Casey and Cadin, Kyle and Megan, and Jared and Bryce; and 23 great-grandchildren, Karina and Austin, Morgan, Charlie, Ella and Cora, Gracie, Alden, August and Helen, Jack, Alex and Jackson, Liam and Emmett, Parker, Nathan and Lucas, Brooklyn and Ben, Arya, Breelyn and Michael; her brothers, Anthony Brzezinski, Carl Brzezinski, Bernard (Dolores) Brzezinski and John (Chesterine) Brzezinski; and her sisters, Mary Ann Vander Kooy and Agnes Gliniecki. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alex, Adam, Joe and James, and her sisters, Pauline Brzezinski, Bertha (Sister Veronica) Brzezinski and Theresa Brzezinski.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. The Rev. Felix Tigoy and the Rev. Robert Streveler will concelebrate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, where at 7:30 p.m. there will be a rosary. Visitation will be again from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of services at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at
