Joyce E. Karnath, 99, Mosinee, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2021, at Acorn Hill Assisted Living, Mosinee with family by her side.

Joyce was born on November 26, 1921, in Stratford, Wisconsin to the late George and Hazel (Larkee) Meyer. She and Bruce Karnath were married on December 28, 1946, in Ashland, Wisconsin. Bruce proceeded her in death on March 20, 2007.

Joyce is survived by her children, Alan (Mary Jo) Karnath, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and Jill Karnath Lemke, Shorewood, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Melissa, Elizabeth (Kevin), Melanie, Rebecca, Nicole (Max) and Roger (Keri); one brother, Dale Meyer, Ocala, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Joyce was proceeded in death by one sister, Carol and three brothers, Glenn, Hal and Paul.

Joyce graduated from Superior Teacher’s College. Her first teaching position was in Crenshaw, Minnesota. She then accepted a teaching position in Mosinee in 1945 teaching Biology and Science. She and Bruce were the high school “science“ department. After marrying, Joyce continued to substitute teach.

Joyce was a beloved wife to Bruce for 60 years, a devoted mother and grandmother and a dear friend to many.

She was a longstanding active member of the United Methodist Church and the community at large. She enjoyed playing bridge, coffee “klutches” with friends, planning and orchestrating family trips, extended family gatherings, sharing crossword puzzles with Bruce and a tireless volunteer for many service projects.

Joyce was thoughtful, kind, and generous and displayed a great sense of humor. She showed an interest in others, asked about their families (and dogs) and events in their lives. She maintained close and meaningful relationships with family, extended family, and friends. She possessed a remarkable memory and was often asked to recall historical to present day information and events. During her frequent family telephone calls and visits, she expressed her gratitude for visits, cards and letters from friends and relayed they were the highlight of her day.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Mosinee United Methodist Church. The Reverend Gail Ray will officiate. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at the Mosinee Cemetery immediately following the service. Beste Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at

Memorials in Joyce’s name can be directed to the Mosinee United Methodist Church or the Community Center of Hope.

A special thanks to the staff at Acorn Hill and Interim Hospice for their loving care and devotion to Joyce.

Jill and Alan, sending hugs and prayers to you during this difficult time. After losing my mother at the age of 57, you were very lucky to have your mother until age 99. Have many fond memories of your mom when spending time with Jill, at church and at school. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
