Neil J. Baur, 87, passed away peacefully in his home, Monday, April 11, 2016, surrounded by family members. He was born April 24, 1928 to the late Leo and Francis (Martin) Baur. Neil served in the Army and then married his beloved wife, Margaret Obernberger on Sept. 3, 1953 (63 years) at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. She survives.
Neil farmed for 32 years and worked for the towns of Marathon and Emmet, grading roads and plowing snow, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the Halder Lions and the grounds keeper of the Halder Community Club. He enjoyed taking care of the Halder ballpark and always played a vital role in the Halder tractor pull. Neil was also an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church parish and will be remembered for his intricate craftsmanship with wood.
Survivors, besides his wife, Margaret, include four children, Roger (Melinda) Baur, Mosinee, Barbara (William) Dahlke, Stratford, Steven (Nan) Baur and Bruce (Lisa) Baur, both of Mosinee; thirteen Grandchildren, Jennifer Baur, Kimberly (Richard) Wadzinski, Laura and Michael Baur, Sarah (Derek) Stoner, Maria and Katie Dahlke, Nicholas, Patrick and Kayla Baur, and Heather, Julie and Sydney; a brother, Merlin (Delores) Baur, Mosinee; two sisters, GloriAnne Palm, Wausau and Yvonne (Glen) Ward, Green Bay; two sister-in-laws, Betty Baur, Appleton and June Baur, Schofield; and a cousin, Paul Hawkins, Oregon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Jr and Charles Baur and a brother-in-law, Jim Palm.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. The Rev. Felix Tigoy and Rev. Robert Streveler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is in charge of arrangements.
