Jon D. Bernhardt, affectionately known as “Bernie”, of Rothschild, was called home to his Savior on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at the age of 71, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Jon was born on November 26, 1950, in Wausau, to the late Delbert and Marion (Thresher) Bernhardt. He graduated from D.C. Everest High School in 1968, and lived his life in the Wausau area. Bernie worked in assembly for Marathon Electric for more than 40 years.
Jon was a life-long member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Schofield, where over the years he served on the church council and took care of church properties by mowing the lawn and taking care of snow removal. He was big on faith and big on family; proud beyond measure of his son, Kellen, and adored his three grandchildren, Bristol, Beckham, and Ruby. Bernie was easy to make friends with and never seemed to meet a stranger. Over the years, he enjoyed playing sudoku and taking care of his Mustang Mach-1. He will be fondly missed by his crowd of friends, co-workers, church family, and all the lives he touched.
Bernie is survived by his son, Kellen (Erica) Bernhardt, of Kronenwetter; grandchildren, Bristol, Beckham, and Ruby Bernhardt; sisters, Sharon Bernhardt and Sue Bernhardt, both of Schofield; niece, Korey Bernhardt; and nephew, Jeff Bernhardt. He is further survived by cousins, Keith (Julie) Johnson, Bob Johnson, Lowell Johnson, and Jeanine Preboski; as well as many other cousins, and friends that are like family. He is preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Roy and Harris (Elsie) Thresher; aunt, Pearl Johnson; and an infant brother, Keith Bernhardt.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1351 S. Grand Ave, Schofield. Pastor Jeffrey Mahnke will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24 and again from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Bernie may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Wausau Manor, Aspirus Palliative Care Unit, and the Pastors of St. Peter for their exceptional care of both Jon and their family.
Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements.
