In celebration of a life well lived, Merwin Mait Bunker, 90 years old, went to be with The Lord on July 25, 2017. Born to Ebba and George Bunker on July 28, 1926 in Rogers City, Michigan, he was quite an example of the “Greatest Generation”. Merwin, or “Bunk” as he was called by friends and family lived and shared his life with the guiding principles of God, country and family.
Bunk was a Christian of the Lutheran faith; a proud Navy Veteran of World War II and Korea; he was a kind and wonderful man who was loved, is deeply missed and forever cherished.
Bunk moved his family from Green Bay to Rothschild in 1956 where he continued to work for Wisconsin Public Service until his retirement in 1987. He was a quiet, gentle man who loved the outdoors, to hunt, fish and vacation in their travel trailer. He could build and fix anything. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran church, active in Boy Scouts, WPS Men’s Club and in his later years, the VFW Post 8733.
Bunk leaves behind his wife Gert of 61 years; brother Benson Bunker (Marianne); sister Vera Jean Baker; son William Phillips (Carolyn), daughters Cynthia Phillips and Jeanean Allen-Boyce(Kevin), 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; Grace Banta, William Wyne(Ruth), Alice Jenkins; brother and sister-in-law’s along with cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom will hold their love and memories of this man forever within their hearts.
