Jerome E. Cherek, 65, Mosinee, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
He was born Jan. 4, 1951, in Wausau, the son of the late Edward and Mayme (Woytasik) Cherek. He married Jeanette (Delinsky) Jacobs on Oct. 21, 1994, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. She survives.
Jerome had an infectious smile and laughter and the best knee slap around! He was such a giving and loving family man who embraced life and loved serving the Lord. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, nature and taking pride in working his land. He married Jeanette 22 years ago and became the father he didn’t have to be to her young children. He loved being a father and then a grandfather. Two years ago Jerome retired from the Mosinee Paper Mill after 35 years. Since his retirement, Jerome and Jeanette have enjoyed traveling, expanding their ever-growing garden, wine making and spending more time with their grandchildren and attending their activities. Jerome’s many friendships were also near and dear to his heart. Anyone who came into Jerome’s life was important to him. He always wanted to share everything he had or did with anyone he met. Jerome was very sentimental and never afraid to show his feelings. His family loved making him cry at Christmas with thoughtful gifts because it was so easy to do. Jerome loved Christmas and Christ and his family and is comforted by the knowledge that he is with his savior. They just wish they had more time with him to make more wonderful memories.
Survivors, besides his wife, Jeanette, include a son, Warren (Jamie) Jacobs, Mosinee; two daughters, Jaclyn (Bret) Derby, Greenville, and Jacee (Lee) Feit, Mosinee; eight grandchildren, Dakotah, Kurt and Jared Jacobs, Emily, Haley and Ashly Derby, and Jordan and Ethan Feit; a brother, Leroy (Dianne) Cherek, Wausau; a sister, Delores (Allan) Blood, DeForest; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Barney Adamski.
