Donald Phillip Feit of Knowlton died peacefully Monday October 28th at Willow Brook Assisted Living Facility under the care of Heartland Hospice.
He was born September 9th, 1931, son of the late Henry and Marie (Kolpacky) Feit. In 1948 he was elected prom King and chose Delores Stroik as his Queen. They remained a couple and married on November 10th, 1952.
He graduated from Mosinee High School where he lettered in boxing, basketball, football, and baseball. He received an associate’s degree from what is now UW Stevens Point and began his teaching career at Knowlton School. He was drafted into the army and served during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he then taught for one year at Dancy School. He returned to UW Stevens Point for a bachelor’s degree where he also lettered in baseball. Upon graduation, he and his wife moved to Neenah and began his career with the Neenah school district. During his career he was a teacher or principal at Mckinley, Lincoln, Clayton and ended his career at Hoover school. During that time, he earned his master’s degree from UW Superior. He received the Principal of the Year Award in 1985. Hoover elementary school honored him by naming their new playground Feit Park. He was president of the local teachers association, a member of the Kiwanis of Neenah, and director of CCD programs at St Gabriels the Archangel Parish in Neenah.
After 32 years, he retired and moved back to Knowlton. In April 1995 he was elected town supervisor. In 1997, he was proud to be the 3rd generation of his family to be elected town chairman. Due to health reasons, he did not seek reelection.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, the Brewers, Packers and local sports. He collected coins and was an avid reader of sports, history and politics.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Delores, oldest son Greg, and his brothers Robert (Bob) and Norbert. He is survived by son Brian (Cindy) Feit, granddaughter Tracy (Dan) Clendenning, grandsons Jason Feit, John Skierka, and Jason (Jess) Skierka, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knowlton. The Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m., until the time of service, all at the church.
