Lorraine T. Gaines, 91, Mosinee, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at Acorn Hill Senior Living Community, Mosinee.
She was born June 10, 1929, in Siren, the daughter of the late Victor and Ella (Huble) Wohlitz. She married Robert Gaines, he preceded her in death.
When we think of her, community is what comes to mine. She was a lifelong servant volunteering with a wide variety of organizations including The Milwaukee Ballet, American Cancer Society, The Open Door in Wausau and Community Center of Hope, Mosinee. She was a dedicated mother to her daughters, Kathy and Clare, and fostered a number of young ones for Milwaukee County.
She used her amazing sewing skills to make “stylish” matching outfits. While cooking was our father’s forte’, she did teach us some comfort foods that remain staples in our kitchen.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Fritsch, Mosinee, and Clare (Scott) Weir, Neshkoro; two grandchildren, Sylvia (Chris Charneski) and Morgan (Ethan) Plantz; and four great-grandchildren, Ora Plantz, Ben Springer, Keign Charneski and Kyra (Sean) Andraschko.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Fritsch, a great grandson, Cameron Springer, her son-in-law, Daniel Fritsch, and a brother,
Leroy Wohlitz.
Services will be held at a later date. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
Donations, in Lorraine’s name, may be directed to the family and will be given to Acorn Hills Senior Living Community and the Open Door in Wausau.
The family would like to thank the staff at Acorn Hill for the wonderful care and love they gave to mom, and to the tenants who gave her love and friendship. Also thank you to Interim Hospice and Palliative Care for the comfort provided in her final days.
