Gilda Ann Hack (Rheinschmidt)

November 20, 1933 — September 10, 2021

Gilda A. Hack, 87, Mosinee, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2021, at her home in Mosinee with her family and some special friends at her side.

Gilda was born on November 20, 1933, in Mosinee. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn (Emmerich) Rheinschmidt. She married George Hack Jr. on October 4, 1954, in Pine City, MN. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1986.

Gilda grew up on 5th street in Mosinee. After graduating High School, she worked for Dr. Hugh Evans, Bobs Bakery, WPS, The Mosinee Times, and Mosinee Telephone Company. Gilda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mosinee. She was church Treasurer for many years. She also taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, helped with funeral dinners and other church activities. Gilda was a member of Christian Women’s, Marathon County Homemakers and Baptist Church Life Group and Book Club.

Gilda enjoyed community events, festivals, concerts in parks, and Holiday Parades. She was very social and interested in people. She enjoyed traveling, reading, learning and musical theatre.

Gilda liked to tell people about the Mosinee of her youth and carried on her mother’s tradition of passing down family stories and history. She was always knitting something and loved to cook and bake. She was a Charter member of the Mosinee Golf Course and golfed in women’s league for many years. She was a sports fan and loved to watch the Olympics, Ice Skating, Football, Baseball, and Girls Basketball.

Gilda lived a life of service to others, often spending Sunday afternoons visiting and delivering treats to elderly friends and family members. While helping and assisting others and caring for her family was her calling and passion, Gilda was widely known for being a strong independent woman and loyal friend.

Gilda is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Dan) Birdsey, Hudson, and son, Tim Hack, Mosinee, a sister, Rosalie (Reuben) Miller, and sister-in-law Marlene (Rheinschmidt) Dupuis, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her nephews Mitch Miller and Pat Ehster, a brother Carl Rheinschmidt and sister Mona Ehster.
