Henry “Hank” B. Rein, 89, Mosinee, passed away at Aspirus Hospital on October 1, 2024, after a brief hospitalization.
He was born May 10, 1935, in Mosinee and proudly grew up on the family farm, the youngest of 8 siblings. After high school, Hank attended UW-Eau Claire, then moved to Chicago to work in automotive equipment sales. He met Mary Ann Kehoe while she was working as a nurse at Cook County Hospital. They married on October 22, 1960, and had daughters, Kathy and Karen. The family moved to Mosinee in 1974 where he became owner of D&R Chevrolet. He then retired from the City of Wausau Transit as Maintenance Supervisor in 1996.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1956, stationed at Fort Benning, and was 1st Lieutenant when discharged in 1968.
Family was important to Henry. He is survived by daughters Kathy (John) Schlatterer of Mosinee; Karen (Don) Moyer of Goodhue, MN; granddaughter Andrea (Matt) Biersack of Stevens Point; grandson Kyle Moyer of Minneapolis, MN; sister in law Gerrie Rein; brother in law Robert Kehoe and wife Patricia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; parents, Wesley and Anna Rein; his siblings and their spouses, John (Fran) Rein, Josie (Harold) Stieber, Walter (Katie) Rein, Marge (Jim) Bradley, Robert Rein, Lillian (Lawrence) Drake, and Anthony Rein; nephews John Rein and Francis Stieber.
Henry enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and snowmobiling with family. He was still a member of Eau Plaine Riders Snowmobiles Club and always said there was not a trail in Wisconsin that he hasn’t been on. He was active until the end, mowing the lawn, feeding birds, and helping his granddaughter with barn chores. The family would like to thank the kind people at Marathon Feed, Mosinee Cafe, Gorski’s, Charlie’s Hardware and Lietz’s as Dad made his rounds to local businesses.
Henry’s family is grateful for the staff in Aspirus ICU and Palliative Care for the compassion and care they provided.
