Stephen R. Hughes, 75, Mosinee, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born Dec. 2, 1942, in Elgin, Ill., the son of Martha (Baumgart) Hughes and the late Stanley Hughes. He married Kathy Liesch on May 25, 2003. She survives.
Stephen graduated from Palantine High School in 1959 and then served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Char from 1960 to 1962. He was the owner of multiple businesses including a Clark Station in Illinois, 2nd Chance Saloon in Richmond, Ill,
Eagles Leathers in Rothschild, and Eagles II Saloon in Mosinee. He loved to ride snowmobiles and motorcycles, drive fast Corvettes, and drinking beer.
Survivors, besides his wife, Kathy, and his mother, Martha Hughes, Crystal Lake, Ill., formerly of Barrington, Ill., include a daughter, Nicole (Brian) Gutowski and a granddaughter, Abby Waniger, all of Birnamwood; two brothers, Stan “Butch” (Carol) Hughes, Franktown, Colo., and Aaron (Julie) Hughes, Marengo, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Michelle (Mike) Marg, Hortonville, Danielle (Mike) Hooyman, Omaha, Neb., and Elizabeth (Leo) Moore, Brillion; and many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leslie Hughes.
