Bernice Ann Monica Jablonski, 102, Marshfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at the Atrium Post Acute Care of Marshfield, where she resided since May 2016.
Bernice was born on the family farm in Mosinee on June 15, 1916, to Joseph and Anna (Gryczkowska) Konieczko. She lived most of her life in Mosinee and Rothschild until moving to Marshfield in December 2012. She attended Liberty Grade School in Mosinee and graduated from Mosinee High School in 1935 and the State Teachers College (now Stevens Point University) in 1937. She married Chester Jablonski on June 28, 1941, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee. He passed away on Aug. 28, 1969. After her husband’s passing her main focus in life became her children and then also her grandchildren who still remain very close to her.
Bernice’s employment included teaching grade school in Marathon County, supervisory positions in industrial plants in Chicago, and the James River Corp. in Wausau. She became a full-time homemaker after her son was born, returning to work as a lab technician at Foremost Foods in Rothschild in 1969 after her husband’s death. She retired from Foremost in 1979.
During her school years Bernice enjoyed membership in and holding office in various clubs such as the Rural Life Club, Glee Club, 4-H Club, Drama Club and the Loyola Club in Stevens Point University. She served as secretary and treasurer of the Rothschild Home and Community Education Club and was a member of the Wausau Senior Citizens Club. She was a founding member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Rothschild, active in the St. Mark’s Ladies Council and Mother Cabrini Circle, and member of the area Christian Women’s Club.
Over the years Bernice enjoyed travel to 26 states, Washington D.C., Hawaii and Canada, as well as family gatherings, festivals, theater, plays, reading and sewing. She always welcomed cards and visits from friends, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren.
She is survived by two children, Dennis Jablonski, Stratford, and Cheryl (Lawrence) Krainz, Marshfield; four grandchildren, Dawn Hanke, Janel (Ray) Cheyka, Joanna (Todd) Cheyka and Lisa Fliehr; 16 great-grandchildren who affectionately call her Greatest Grandma; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Josephine Probizanski, Helen Sokolick, Jean Mousser, Margaret Altenburg, and three brothers, Francis, Joseph and Bernard Konieczko.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Rev. Allan Slowiak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Monday until time of services at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.bestefh.com.
