James D. Morris, 79, of Knowlton, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 7, 1945, the son of the late Donald and Anna (Cincera) Morris. On Sept. 14, 1968, he married Sandra Legner at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. She survives.
Jim graduated from Mosinee High School in the class of 1963. He worked at Mosinee Telephone Company for 44 years, retiring in 2013. As a US Army veteran, he was very active in the VFW Mosinee Post 8733. He was a 57-year Charter member, and he received the Lifetime Legacy Award recipient in 2024.
Jim was the Town of Knowlton supervisor for 37 years and sat as a chairman of the township. He was also a 4-H leader and earned the Master Shepard Award.
Survivors, besides his wife, Sandra, include two daughters: Sarah Van Hoof, Sun Prairie, and Karen (Curt) Fochs, Mosinee; three grandchildren: Josef (Fallan) Fochs, Benjamin Fochs, and Rocco Van Hoof; a brother, Frank (Marge) Morris; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; son in-law, Steve Van Hoof; and siblings, Lovel, Evelyn, Dorothy, Mary Jane, John and Donna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knowlton. The Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Knowlton. Visitation will be on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where at 6:45 p.m. there will be a VFW service, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. Visitation will be again Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Online condolences can be made at www.bestefh.com.
