Judith (Judy) Ann Hughes, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 18, 2023 in Wausau, Wisconsin.
She was born on December 10, 1942 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Madeline (Sonnenberg) and Edward Sager. She met her husband, Marvin, at University of Wisconsin Stevens Point while working in the library. Immediately following graduation, they married in Stevens Point on June 12, 1965. She was an English teacher in Iola, Wisconsin and later a librarian in Mosinee where she and Marvin have lived ever since. She left teaching for her most important calling, being a mom to her four boys. She would get a sparkle in her eyes any time she could talk about David (Stacy), Alan (Julie), Steven (Constanza), and Patrick (Kriston) along with her grandkids Joshua, Bailey, Carson, Laney, Easton, Truman, Campbell, Matilda, Cormac, and Miranda.
Judy was a green thumb gardener that could nurse any plant back to health and loved all of God's creatures. There wasn’t an animal that visited her backyard that would leave hungry: from birds (including two pet crows), squirrels, chipmunks, frogs, and even black bears, she would take care of them all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Madeline Sager of Stevens Point, her sister, Linda Bethell of Craig, Colorado and her beloved miniature schnauzers, Ally, Olly, Jocko, and DeeDee. She will be loved and missed by all that ever had the good fortune to meet her.
Thanks to all the special caregivers at Mount View Care Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Marathon County Humane Society in Judy’s memory.
