Katsuko Thanig, 82, Mosinee, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
She was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Okinawa, Japan, the daughter of the late Chuhachi and Nae (Yamashiro) Shimada. She married Glen Thanig on Dec. 11, 1962, in Okinawa. He survives.
Katsuko was generous and kind, caring for all she met. She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking Asian recipes for others. Little children loved being around her because she could easily make them laugh and smile. She took great pleasure in bird watching, but nowhere was her love of nature more apparent than her passion for flowers – planting, tending and nurturing many beautiful varieties around her yard and in her house.
Survivors include three children, Ken (Christine) Thanig, Hazelhurst, Kim (Ed) Schiefelbein, Parker, Colo., and Anita (Rob) Oliva, Mosinee; nine grandchildren, Chase, Taylor, Mason, Madison, Kyler, Kadin, Kassidy, Tyler and McKenna; and a sister, Misako Tamayose, Maui, Hawaii. Katsuko was preceded in death by three sisters.
