Fred S. Maly, 85, died peacefully with his family by his side, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1932, the son of the late Fred and Helen (Rzymek) Maly. Fred married Lorraine Miller 62 years ago, on June 30, 1956 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She survives.
Fred was a United States Marine Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict from Oct. 8 1952 – March 27, 1955. He worked for the Mosinee Paper Corporation for 44 years as an electrician, retiring in 1995. Fred enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and playing cards with family and friends. He also made many items for his grandchildren through his woodworking.
Besides his wife, Lorraine, he is survived by his three children; Gregory Maly, Knowlton, Cynthia (Richard) Maly-Beranek, Wausau, and Suzanne (William) Epstein, Knowlton; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Kaas, Christopher Epstein, and Matthew (Alisha) Beranek; three great-grandchildren, Isabella Kaas, Blake and Ella Beranek; a brother, Leonard (Charlotte) Maly, Mosinee; three sisters, Lorraine Barthels, Wausau, Karen Pankow, Rhinelander, and Judy (Gary) Tapper, Wausau; two brother-in-laws, Dennis Riehle, Wausau, and Reuben (Rosilie) Miller, Mosinee. He is preceded in death by a sister, Grace Riehle.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knowlton. The Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis parish cemetery, Knowlton. Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where at 6:30 there will be a VFW service followed by a parish prayer service, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee.
