Thomas J. Meurett, 73, Mosinee, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1943, in Wausau, the son of the late Wilson and Margaret (Levandowski) Meurett. He married Gertrude Lewens on Sept. 25, 1965, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. She survives.
He served in the 32nd Infantry Division from 1959 to 1964, and was called up for the Cuban Missile Crisis, achieving the rank of SP4. He was employed at the National Tea Company for 20 years and then at the D.C. Everest School District for 25 years, retiring August 8, 2006. After retirement, he worked part-time for Lighting Design Solutions from August 2007 until May 2016. Tom also cut deer from his home and made maple syrup for years.
Survivors, besides his wife, Gertrude, include two sons, Kenneth (Michelle) Meurett, Mosinee, and Daniel (Marleen) Meurett, Navarre, Fla.; a daughter, Marie (Jason) Waldvogel, Hatley; four grandchildren, Brooklyn, Anna, Avery and Brody; two step-grandchildren, Nic and Michael; a step great-grandson, Jaxson; and four siblings, John (Karen) Meurett, Wausau, Patricia (Don) Smith, Shawano, Barbara (Dennis) Dietmeyer, Ringle, and Michael Meurett, Wausau; a bother-in-law, Jerry Jacoby, Gilbert, Ariz: many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Jacoby.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peterson and staff at Aspirus Regional Cancer Center, Family Physicians at Aspirus, the staff at Aspirus Home Hospice and Shopko Pharmacy in Rothschild for all the help they gave to Tom and his family. Also, a sincere thank you to all our family and friends, our angels on earth, for all their love and support, and a special thank you to Father Don Przybylski and the parishioners at St. Paul’s Church for all the prayers.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Norman Boneck will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. A rosary service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday followed by the visitation until 8 p.m. at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. Visitation will be again from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
