Agnes Marie Mikes left this world on Saturday April 14, 2018, with Gladys and Arne at her bedside.
She was born in Dancy, WI, on February 3, 1926, to the late Jacob and Stella (Matuga) Hajec. She learned to sew, cook and bake at a very young age. She grew up helping her family on the farm. She met dad at a dance she was attending with her cousin and the rest is history. She married her true love Joseph S. Mikes on October 23, 1943, and had enjoyed almost 71 years together raising their family and farming in Rocky Ridge before dad passed away on April 30, 2014.
She helped clear land, farm and milked cows by hand before they got the Surge Bucket. She always grew a big garden and canned her bounty to enjoy in the winter, especially her pickles and tomato juice, she made the best tomato soup with dumplings. She also liked to pick mushrooms in the woods and dry them. She loved her flower garden with her favorite flower being the gladiolas. In the early 1980s she started quilting, making quilts for the family. Her favorite pattern was the Log Cabin. She also quilted lots of Christmas stockings for family and friends.
Her family was important to her, attending their activities and milestones; she especially enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids and loved to see pictures of them.
She spent over 20 years being treasurer of the Western Fraternal Life Association, Lodge RIP 144, Mosinee.
