Jose Luis Ochoa

June 9, 1951 — February 4, 2022

Jose Ochoa, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 4, 2022, at his home in Mosinee, WI. He was born on June 9, 1951, in Jalisco, Mexico to the late Castulo de Jesus Ochoa and Virginia (Hernandez) Ochoa.

Jose grew up in southern California from the age of 7. Jose developed his love for automobiles working as a Porsche mechanic and eventually owned his own Porsche repair shop in Santa Monica, CA. He owned and raced several Porsches and was respected and admired for his expertise. Jose and Wisconsin-native Karla Kamke met in 1983 at his Porsche shop, where he was willing to help repair her car – even though it was a Datsun. They were married on June 24, 1990. In 1991 they settled in Mosinee, WI, where they raised their daughter and shared 30 winters (he counted) and countless memories.

While living in Wisconsin, Jose became an integral part of the Mosinee and Wausau communities. He worked for years as a service advisor at various auto dealerships where customers often became friends. He could always be counted on for good, honest advice and will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He would be the first to give you a hard time when your sports team lost but also the first to lend a hand. His hobbies included golf and auto racing, and he would want you to play a round of golf or watch a race in his memory.

Jose was a loving and thoughtful husband and father who found joy in supporting his family and celebrating their accomplishments – both big and small. He will be greatly missed.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Jose de Jesus Ochoa.

Jose is survived by his wife: Karla Ochoa, Mosinee, WI, his daughter: Naomi Ochoa, New York, NY, and nine siblings: Guadalupe Ochoa, Domingo Ochoa (Janis), Maria Luisa Ochoa (Richard Veloz), Javier Ochoa (Marcelle), Jaime Ochoa (Juliette), Leticia Ochoa, Juan Ochoa, Amalia Ochoa (Michael Fucci), and Esteban “Steve” Ochoa, all residing in California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

No formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will take place over the summer. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.

In 2007, Jose received a liver transplant at UW Health in Madison, WI, which granted him another 15 healthy years to spend with his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on behalf of Jose to the UW Health Transplant Center Greatest Needs Fund, https://secure.supportuw.org/give/, 800.443.6162.
