Alex John Onopa, son of Frank & Veronica, 83, of Mosinee, went home peacefully to his heavenly Father on Monday evening with his family at his side. Alex was born on the family home farm in 1932.
Alex loved his Polish heritage, including, pierogies, golumpki, and apple pie … with ice cream. He was an avid NASCAR fan who also spent time traveling and camping with family. He loved watching football and basketball, dancing, and, telling stories with family and friends.
Alex and fellow hunters controlled the deer population in Peplin for the past 60 years. His favorite number was 777. Alex worked at Mosinee Papers for 32 years. He also enjoyed farming and mechanics.
He leaves behind his loving family, wife Judy of 58 years, 3 sons, Rick (Mary Jo), of Wausau; Mark, Eagan, Minnesota; Dave (Betty), Dorr, Michigan; and daughter Kristi (Mike) Mikalsen, Cottage Grove, WI. Alex was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. His sister, Genevieve Sharkey lives in Mosinee. In addition, there are many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Donald Przybylski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Beste Funeral Home, where at 4 p.m. there will be a prayer service. Visitation will be again from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.
