Roy “Butch” Sawczuk, age 78, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on December 29, 2023, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
He was born on July 29, 1945, son of the late Eolus Sawczuk and Irene (Sypnieski) Sawczuk. He married Marlene Baravetto on April 9, 1976. She survives.
Butch worked at the Mosinee paper mill from 1962 – 1973. He worked for 14 years at Drott / JICase in Schofield. Prior to Retirement in 2007, Butch worked on the road crew for the Town of Rib Mountain for 19 years, during that time he was proud to be a key member of the group that got the boat landing approved and placed at Rookery Park in Rib Mountain.
Butch enjoyed puttering in the garage. Most would say, “Butch could fix anything.” He would build things out of nothing. From building a Lamborghini to a sawmill to go-carts, bicycles, riding lawnmowers and his own custom skid steers. Butch was selfless. He enjoyed helping people. Especially if a machine was required to do the job. At the end of the day, these things were all fun to him.
Butch loved spending time with family. He enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake DuBay. A lot of time was spent shooting and reloading. Early mornings and evenings were usually spent with his wife, feeding the neighborhood birds, squirrels, turkeys, deer, and most recently a bear.
In addition to his wife Marlene, Butch is survived by his sister Beverly (Stanley) Andrews, 6 children, Tracey (Colette) Sawczuk, Craig Sawczuk, Mary Sawczuk, Terry (Mary Ann) Wasniewski, Rick (Chris) Wasniewski, Lisa (Terry) Woller, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
