Sandra L. Dalton, 87, Weston, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Pride TLC, Weston, WI.
She was born Oct. 27, 1937, in Mosinee, WI, the daughter of the late Sylvester (Jack) and Verna (Borth) Justesen. She married David L. Dalton, Sr., on June 27, 1959. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2019.
Sandra attended school in Mosinee and graduated in 1955. She then went on to complete a teaching degree in 1958 at UWEC. Her early teaching years were at Ladysmith Elementary School and Mosinee Boulevard Elementary School, as well as substitute teaching in various Mosinee schools. Sandra later returned to complete her Bachelor of Education degree at UWSP in 1989 and continued to substitute teach. She also managed a family store, specializing in clothes and later resale books and other items, for many years.
Education, and indeed, the whole learning process, was very important to Sandra. She loved teaching and her students, as well as learning herself. She taught crafts to all who wanted to know. She headed up “Warm Up America,” arranging for the making and donation of many knitted or crocheted items to those in need. Sandra had also been a lifelong Happy Haus Fraus Homemakers Club member, sharing tips, support, and laughter with those ladies for years.
Sandra and David were 4-H leaders who mentored many children in the community, earned the recognition of Marathon County, and served on the Central Wisconsin Fair Board.
Sandra loved the Mosinee community and its rich history. She was always grateful for her neighbors’ help and support. There was no other place on earth that Sandra loved more than her farm on Highway 153. She tended to her gardens, watched the various livestock in the fields, cross-country skied to the woods in the winters, and petted her cats in the sun on her front porch, all on her patch of heaven.
She is survived by two of her children, Christopher (Lisa Frey) Dalton, Mundelein, IL, and Heather (Scott) Matti, Harris, MN; five grandchildren, Devon (Minneapolis), Zia (Ian)Maxim (Minneapolis), Maxwell (Harris), Josephine (River Falls, WI), and Finnigan (Harris); one of her siblings, Gayle (Jerry) Klein and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Sandra was preceded in death by a son, David Dalton Jr, her brother Rodney Justesen, and many nieces and nephews.
Per Sandra’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.bestefh.com.
