Mildred A. Schaefer, 83, Rib Mtn., died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born January 18, 1934, in Mosinee, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Sirny) Vesely. She married Jack Schaefer April 16, 1956, in Mosinee. He survives.
The oldest of 10 children, Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was known for her love of Polka Music and enjoyed getting together with family. She was employed at Marathon Electric, active in the Rib Mountain Fire Department’s Ladies Axillary, volunteered with Rib Mountain Boy Scout Troop 453, taught religious education at St. Matthew’s parish, cooked at Rib Mountain Elementary school, adult leader of the Sundowners 4H troop, Fair Supervisor for Flowers, honorably served many years on the Election Board for the Town of Rib Mountain, and always made sure her family was taken care of. In recent years she enjoyed coloring books, and maintained a love of crocheting.
Survivors, besides her husband, Jack, include her children, David Schaefer, Rib Mtn., Diane (Curtis) Hangartner, Rib Mtn., Marie (Patrick) Stepanik, Schofield, and Jon Schaefer, Rothschild. Her adoring grandchildren; Brian Hangartner, Dylan (Ashley) and Dakota Schaefer, Sarah and Joseph Stepanik, three brothers; Gordon (Judy) Vesely, Menomonie Falls, Russell (Laurie) Vesely, Marathon, Vernon (Margaret) Vesely, Mosinee, a sister; Eleanor (Jim) Risch, Milton, a brother-in-law; Miram Lenz, Mosinee, and two sisters-in-law; Kathy Vesely, Mosinee, and Doris Vesely, Weston, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Kenneth, Harold (Sally), Jerry Vesely, and two sisters; Rita Lenz and Carol Blaszczyk.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017, at
St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Rev. Louis Britto will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements.
