Robert “Bob” R. Schipferling, 87, Mosinee, died, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, surrounded by his family at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
He was born May 1, 1931, the son of the late Edward and Teresa (Ciske) Schipferling. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954., He married Helen Jean Huhn on July 11, 1953, in Sherwood, Wis., celebrating 65 years. She survives.
Hockey was a big part of Bob’s life; before joining the Navy, he played hockey for the Menasha Redwings, and then played with the Mosinee Papermakers. He was honored to be inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
Bob was well known in the Mosinee Hockey Community as the “voice of the Papermakers”, announcing and score keeping for over 50 years. He helped build the Recreational Center and hockey rink in Mosinee, that has been enjoyed by many generations. He also announced and ran the clock for the Mosinee High School Hockey games from 1972 to 2014.
Bob was employed as a barber at Moss’ Barbershop from 1959 to 1973, and then as custodian for the Mosinee School System from 1973 to 1998. He also planted and tended to the flowers at the church for over 25 years and was a VFW Honor Guard at funerals.
Survivors, besides his wife, Helen, include his four children, Bob (Lynn) Schipferling, Stevens Point, Jeff (Doris) Schipferling, Mosinee, Ann Vosz, Mosinee, and Lauri (Mike Hilleman) Gaedtke, Tomahawk; seven grandchildren, Josh (Carmen) Schipferling, Andy (Meredith) Schipferling, Casey and Eric Schipferling, Brian (fiancée, Rachel Hartwig) Schipferling, and Kris and Kaitlin Gaedtke; five great-grandchildren, Morrison, Jace, Colin, Mitch and Zach; and a brother, John (Carol) Schipferling, Mountain, Wis. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Peter Vosz; a grandson, Dominic Schipferling; a great-grandson, Daxton; three brothers, Frank, Leonard and Thomas Schipferling, and an infant sister, Mary.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at St. Paul Catholic, Mosinee. The Rev. Donald Meuret will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with a 7:45 VFW service, followed by a prayer service. Visitation will be again from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services all at the church.
