Wilbur H. Schuster, 92, Wausau, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
He was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Frank and Esther (Young) Schuster. He married Myra Elson on June 5, 1954, in Wausau. She died July of 2009.
He was a veteran of the Japan Occupation and the Korean War, having served in both the Air Force and the Marine Corps. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserves for 28 years. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Volunteer Fireman and EMT; Member of the Wausau Barbershop, and sang in the church choir at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. He was an amateur pilot. One of his best memories was going to Washington D.C. on The Honor Flight. He was a good shot and enjoyed hunting for grouse and deer out at his in-laws Jim and Delores Jonas' land. He taught his children how to hunt there too. And he always supported his children in their activities. He loved seeing his great-grandchildren grow up next door.
Our father was a great man who showed love to everyone. And he never met a dog who didn't like him. He will be sadly missed but we are happy that he is not suffering anymore.
Survivors include two children, Daniel (Roxanne) Schuster, Weston, and Annemarie (John) Rudolph, Wausau; a granddaughter, Rebekah (Joshua) Adams, Rib Mountain; four great-grandchildren, AJ Adams-Rudolph, Liliana Adams, Kali Adams and Nikolai Adams-Rudolph, all of Rib Mountain; girlfriend and caregiver Mary Gilles, Wausau; a brother-in-law, Russell Elson, Tuscan, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Schultz, Merrill. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Porath, and a brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Magdalene (Lane) Schuster along with many other in-laws.
We would like to thank his dear friend, Mary for the wonderful care and friendship she shared with our father.
