William “Bill” L. Singkofer, 86, Mosinee, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at his home.
He was born April 1, 1932, in Mosinee, the son of the late William and Vesta (Sayler) Singkofer. He married Barbara O’Keefe on June 21, 1958, at St. Therese Church, Rothschild. Bill & Barb celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. She survives.
Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran. He proudly served with the 709th D Co. Military Police Battalion in Giessen, Germany from 1953 through 1954. He was employed with Mosinee Paper Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1994 as Head Fireman in the boiler room.
Bill volunteered at the Mosinee Rec. Center during hockey season for many years as one of the “Busy B’s” and could also be seen mowing the little league baseball fields during spring and summer for 12 years after retirement. His roots were deep in Mosinee but also in Nebraska, where he lived as a teenager beginning with the White Horse Ranch. He worked as a ranch hand for other ranchers for several years and gained close friendships with his fellow “cowboys” until drafted into the Army. He found great contentment in the Sand Hills of Nebraska.
Bill loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. One of his favorite things to do was drive around the countryside looking for wildlife, checking the farm fields and enjoying the scenery. In years past he enjoyed traveling with Barb, fishing and hunting with his four sons and with his lifelong best friend, Bud Schultz.
Bill passed away July 10th, which would have been their sons, Daniel’s 56th birthday.
