Edwin Conrad Sitko, 79, Mosinee, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, surrounded by his family at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
Ed was born on Dec. 31, 1936, to the late Conrad and Mary (Kasprzycki) Sitko. In 1954 he graduated from Mosinee High School and continued his education by completing the program from Wisconsin Rapids Welding School. In 1955 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Sargent. He was an aircraft electrician serving aboard aircraft carriers with tours to the Panama Canal, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Mediterranean. He was proud to have served his country!
He married Antoinette “Toni” Andraski on May 4, 1963, in Mosinee. She survives. Together they had four daughters and a son; Shirley (Daryl) Iczkowski, Mosinee, Diane (Bob) Hayes, Mosinee, Lori (Scott) Wolf, Rock Island, IL, Debra (Jeff) Seis, Mosinee, and John (Michele) Sitko, Mosinee.
Ed was a member of the Motorola Boxing Team in Chicago. While in Chicago, he worked and helped to complete the cross-country pipeline. Ed started working for the Mosinee Paper Mill in 1964, were he worked as a welder for 34 years until his retirement in 1998. He was well known for his stainless-steel sculptures and welding abilities. Ed enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and teaching them to weld and build. The Sunday Polka show was never missed and often looked forward to the occasional trip to the casino. He was also a history enthusiast and enjoyed puzzles.
Besides his wife, Toni, and five children, Ed is survived by nine grandchildren, Nick (Megan) Ficken, Clint and Ryan Iczkowski, Ashley and Myranda Hayes, Cory and Brock Seis, and Jesslynn and Jayde Sitko; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachael Wolf; one great-grandson, Jase Ficken; a brother, Paul Sitko, Weston; two sisters, Ann Bowe, Arizona, and Florence (Al) Naurock, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mindy Ficken, a brother in-law, Martin Bowe, and a sister in-law, Mona Sitko.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peplin. The Rev. James Arthur will officiate. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of services all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee is assisting the family with arrangements.
