Sophie Charmaine Pachniak

Sophie C. (Kuranda) Pachniak, 90, Mosinee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Acorn Hill Senior Living Complex briefly under the care of Heartland Hospice Care. Sophie was born on January 30, 1933, in Mosinee, daughter to the late Casimir and Agnes (Antolak) Kuranda.

Sophie married Harry Pachniak on May 26, 1951, at St. Francis Xavier, Knowlton. Sophie and Harry farmed in Knowlton on Harry’s family farm until they bought a farm on the Big Eau Pleine Flowage near Stratford where they farmed until 1990. Sophie also worked at Figis, Badger Basket, and Karau’s Grocery Store.

After retiring from farming in 1990, Sophie and Harry built their dream home along the Big Eau Pleine Flowage. Sophie loved spending time with her family at the river house sharing her wisdom which often started with, “Listen!” She also loved jigsaw puzzles, pontooning, gardening, playing games, watching sports, sewing, and fishing.

Sophie is survived by eleven children: Phillip (Donna) Pachniak, Mary (Ken) Moser, Jim (Beth) Pachniak, Greg (Carol) Pachniak, (daughter-in-law) Karen Pachniak, Kevin Pachniak, Marie (Mike) Baker, Tom (Angie) Pachniak, Joann (Bill) Peltola, Don (Beth) Pachniak, Debbie (Todd) Zuelke, and Charmaine (Jon) Ulrich, twenty-seven grandchildren: Amanda, Melisa, Nathan, Bob, Corey, Anthony, Kelly, Ryan, Josh, Brittany, Erin, Lyndsy, Christopher, Elaena, Megan, Alex, Andrew, Joseph, Zach, Rachell, Elliot, Holly, Eric, Emily, Liz, Kaitlyn, and Devin, and twenty-two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Christine (Peanuts) Riesselmann. Sophie is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pachniak, and son, Ron Pachniak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee.  The Rev. Aaron Becker will officiate.  Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Knowlton.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, all at the church.  Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements.   Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
