Vera L. Staples, 93, formerly of Mosinee, died, Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Ridgewood Care Center, Racine.
She was born on Aug. 30,1923, the daughter of the late James and Irene (St. Clair) Malik. She married Ottmer “Slim” Staples on Jan. 3, 1942 in Rudolph. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2009.
Vera and Slim lived in Racine from 1942 until 1984, when they decided to come back to their Central WI roots. Vera often said their years in Mosinee were the happiest time of their lives.
Vera started and ran Riverside Sounds with her husband, Slim for 19 years. She was a cancer survivor for 28 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking and playing her piano. She was especially proud of her grandsons, Anthony and Kevin (Julianna) Mielcarek and adored her newest great-grandsons, Keaton and Jonas Mielcarek.
Survivors include her daughter, Kristene Longo, sister Doris (Bob) Weinkauf Dunedin, FL, daughter in law Catherine Staples, Mosinee. Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by special nieces, Patti MacDougall and Kathy Hougard who she called “the girls” and they called her “Auntie.”
She was preceded in death by brothers Vernon, Karl and Gerold Malik and son James.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Donald Przybylski will officiate. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery, Bergen.
