Mary A. Stepan, 99, Mosinee, passed away on Sunday, March 27th, 2022, at Rennes Heath and Rehab Facility.
She was born April 6, 1922, in Marathon, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Ostrowski) Matis, Sr. She married Charles Stepan on August 24, 1940, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1982.
Mary was known as “grandma” to many generations of family of friends throughout Mosinee. She loved her pet geese and was often called “Mother Goose”. Mary loved being outdoors and tending to her garden. When she wasn’t enjoying nature, she could be found inside, cooking, canning, or reading. Throughout her life spending time with her family was always her favorite pastime.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Diane) Stepan, Mosinee, and Grace (Frank) Rondeau, Wausau; son-in-law, Gregg Weakley, Utah; 7 grandchildren, Gerrick (Melanie) Weakley, Todd (Amy) Stepan, Tad (Corrie) Stepan, Terry Stepan, Julie (Mike) Johnson, Jill (Todd) Gade, Jeff (Jerrene) Rondeau; 12 great-grandchildren, Anndrey and Cora Weakley, Landon, Macy, Trent, Kade and Tucker Stepan, Dustin, David and Mitchell Johnson, and Jordan and Kinsey Gade; two step great-grandchildren, Danielle Grey and Jennifer McIntire; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mikko and Kaisa Johnson. Besides her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband Charles, daughter, Charlotte, and five brothers.
A mass of christian burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Don Meuret will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service all at the church.
