Irene L. Strasser, 82, Mosinee, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Acorn Hill Elder Services, Mosinee.
She was born March 21, 1935, in Mosinee, the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Zebro) Doze.
She met her future husband at a local dance. They were fabulous dancers. Eugene would whirl her around the floor. At that time women wore skirts and dresses, people would watch them dance. It was said she had beautiful legs and she had more than one guy watching. But growing up on a farm and being the oldest, a lot was expected of her. She had chores plus five siblings to keep in line and make sure they did their chores. Plus cook meals, she became an excellent cook. For safety reasons she wasn’t allowed to work in the fields very much because she was so tiny. She couldn’t always be seen. Irene married Eugene Strasser on Sept. 6, 1958, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee. He died Dec. 7, 1986.
Irene could be seen at home raising her own five children. She was a quiet lady who had authority. There were many Sunday mornings the neighborhood kids would stop by right before lunch to enjoy her Sunday chicken and homemade bread.
Survivors include her children, Hilarian (Marie) Strasser, Wausau, Suzanne (Michael) Hytry, Mosinee, David (Beverly) Strasser, Mosinee, Gerald (Sheryl) Strasser, Marathon, and Daniel Strasser, Mosinee; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jake) Kaminski, Marlena Strasser and Connor Strasser; two great-grandchildren, Van and Kendra Kaminski; a brother, Robert (Judy) Doze, Minneapolis, Minn.; and three sisters, Rosemary (John) Kozak, Mosinee, Patricia (Neal) Magrecke, Rothschild, and Mary (Gerald) Kudla, Mosinee. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford, and a granddaughter, Ashley Hytry.
