Eleanora Thanig, 99, Town of Mosinee, died peacefully at home with family at her side on July 9, 2022. She was under Aspirus Care and Hospice Services.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Houf) Bittner, Eleanora was the youngest of five children. She married Stuart Thanig in October of 1941. Eleanora and Stuart dairy farmed in the Rocky Ridge area from 1946 until Stuart passed away in 2006. Eleanora loved the farm and milking cows.
Knowing that her grandson, Stuart Boesl, and his family, were taking care of all things farm related made her happy. Until her last week of life, she enjoyed hearing about the beef calves being born and the crops being grown and harvested. In her later years, her hobby was reading her favorite mystery, thriller, and suspense authors on her iPad.
Survivors include her children: Marguerite Abt, Stuart (Linda Shank) Thanig Jr., and Cecile (Dave Pregont) Thanig; 14 grandchildren: Greg (Dora) Szemborski, Doug Szemborski, Brenda (Mike) Roma, Chris Szemborski, Jocelyn (Mark) Fochs, Virginia (John) Prosser, Ben (Tina) Szemborski, Stuart (Kendra) Boesl, Kim (Tim) Powell, Kelly (Matt) Steffler, Jason Thanig, Toni (Terry) Sorenson, Darrell (Trista) Martin, and Katarina (Zachery) Weihert; great-grandchildren: Bryan, Kelli (Ben), Dan (Leah), Kevin, Chloe, Ivy, Arijah, Jeremiah, Justin, Mackenzie (Josh), Kaitlyn, Anna, Tate, Miranda, Hunter, Kade, Kamryn, Kenson, Kalon, Evan, Abigail, Brenna, Alec, Eli, Aksel, Baylyn, Oliver, Otto, and Jacob. In addition to her husband, Stuart, and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Thanig, a great-grandson, Isaac Sorenson, siblings; Anton, William, Rudolph, and Marguerite Bittner.
