Joyce M. Traeger, 91, Weston, died Friday, June 2, 2017, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1925, in Mosinee, the daughter of the late Stanley and Johanna (Jirgl) Duir.
As a young woman, Joyce sought out adventure in Chicago and Milwaukee. She worked as a professional typist for TWA, General Electric, Western Union and Meyer-Peterson Adjustment. She was even invited into the press box to teletype the reporter’s stories for the Milwaukee Braves. She later settled down and married Clifford Traeger. They had two children, Jean and Paul, and later divorced. Joyce was creative and enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting and stitching. She was active in Boy Scouts for her son and in dance for her daughter. She taught Rosemaling at the YWCA. As a knitter, she put in hundreds of volunteer hours making baby hats and prayer shawls for Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
Survivors include one son; Paul (Wendy) Traeger, Wauwatosa, and one daughter; Jean (Joseph) Senderhauf, Marshall, four grandchildren; Maria and Steven Traeger, Johanna (Riley Dalton) Senderhauf, and Rebecca (Valentine) Sackmann, one great-grandchild; Annabelle Sackmann, one brother; John (LaDonna) Duir, Yorba Linda, CA, and one sister; Rose (Donald) Martin, Rothschild. She was preceded in death by a brother; Glenn Duir.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Rothschild. The Rev. Rich Block will officiate. Burial will be in Mosinee Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services, all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.bestefh.com.
