John J. Valenta, 83, Mosinee, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center, Weston.
He was born Sept. 22, 1935 to John and Minnie (Lenz) Valenta. On Oct. 20, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Schreiber, and recently celebrated 62 years together. She survives.
John graduated from Mosinee High School in 1953 and served some time in the National Guard. After 45 years, he retired from the Mosinee Paper Mill in 1997.
John was an avid Sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. He spent a lot of time gardening and tending to flowers. He was active for many years running projectors for the old Mosinee Theatre and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mosinee. John enjoyed going to rummage sales, looking for “something special”.
Some of his fondest memories were made camping with family and friends. Trips were made to 50 states and favorites were booked more than once! His most memorable vacations were to Florence, Switzerland, Germany and St. Thomas. John and Sandy enjoyed the winters at South Padre Island, walking the beach and making new friends.
Survivors, besides his wife, Sandy, include his children: son, Michael (Kim) Valenta, Mosinee; daughter, Kerry (John) Hytry, Mosinee; and daughter-in-law, Carol Valenta, Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Brittany (Brandon) Vest, McKenzie (Fiancée, Josh) Bates, Jasmine Valenta, Johnathon and Wilhem Hytry, step-granddaughter, Amanda Hytry and a step-grandson, Jesse Sola. He is preceded in death by two sons, Randall and Glenn Valenta and a brother, Norman Valenta.
