Gordon L. Washburn, 85, Mosinee, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
He was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Mosinee, the son of the late Lester and Hazel (Hahn) Washburn. He attended St. Paul Catholic School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in Japan and Korea until 1954. Then from 1956-1960 he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Saudi Arabia and Germany.
Gordon worked at White Pine Copper Mine in White Pine, Mich. for 33 years, retiring in 1991. Following his retirement, he moved to Mosinee and enjoyed coffee with friends every morning and was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his twin brother Glen Washburn, Mosinee; three sisters, Audrey Tessmer, Wausau, Barbara Schust, Racine, and Lynda Ricketts, Dewey, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, David Tessmer, Scott (Edith) Tessmer, Gregory (Paulette) Tessmer, Pamela (Tryg) Knutson, Julie (Brian) Butturff, Dan (Linda) Schust, Wendy (Ernie) DeJesus, Leslie (Gary) Watters, Jill (Eric) Southerland, Jeff (Pauline) Zell, and Tammy (Bob) Crouch; and 18 great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Washburn.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. The Rev. Donald Przybylski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee.
